What I love about playing in the Noga Quartet is the way we understand and communicate with each other. It’s something I haven’t found in any other ensemble. We know each other so well that we can feel what is going to happen next. It’s like going from one brain to another – it’s almost mystical the way we understand each other in playing some of the greatest music ever written.
What I like in chamber music is what I like about playing in any orchestral ensemble – it’s being an important contributor to something that’s much bigger than my own contribution. I love being a part of great music making.
I was born into a musical family. Both of my parents were involved in opera and I often went to performances as a child, but my interest was always in the orchestra pit! From the age of three my love was the violin, and my family say that when I was three I announced that I would become a violinist! At five I started violin lessons which continued until I was later selected for le Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon.
I count my start as a professional musician in the pit at Lyon Opera at age 19. At 20 I was offered an Erasmus exchange in Berlin, with violin lessons and studying chamber music with the Artemis Quartet. I soon joined the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Academy and then helped establish our Noga Quartet. Since 2015 I have been a permanent member of the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin.
